Introductory Cytogenetics

This note provides an introduction to the structure of eukaryotic genomes, from the level of the chromosome down to the level of the gene. Basic cytological techniques including the use of the optical microscope will be covered and supported by laboratory exercises. Also includes the application of cytogenetic and molecular techniques in the study of cell division, karyotyping, chromosomal structure, recombination, changes in chromosome number and structure, physical mapping and chromosome evolution.
